Additional Pursuits Related to Independent Study/My passions

The Outdoors

A large part of the reason I have developed a passion for environmental education and activism is due to the fact I have spent a lot of time in the outdoors. My development as a student, artist, and person is a result of the challenges the outdoors have presented and the experiences I have had. I believe that Outing Clubs are an extremely important resource for  high school students to have, as I could not imagine my life without being involved with my schools Outing Club.

Art Education

I had the opportunity to work at the Portland Museum of Art as a fellow in the education department during the summer before my senior year. While at the PMA I learned about youth and teen museum education, how be be a docent, and about visual thinking strategies. This experience seemed to be the culmination of my other experiences teaching children during previous summers at Maine Audubon and the Yarmouth Farmers Market. I hope to continue working in museum education throughout college and look forward to being a docent one day.

I am a senior at Yarmouth High School in Yarmouth, ME. I am interested in the outdoors, art, environmental activism and how they all intersect. I hope to foster a love for the outdoors and art in children, inspiring a new generation of activists and independent leaders. I love running, printing, sailing, painting outside, reading, cooking, and traveling.
